My Media Boycott

noiseIt’s official! The world may end but I will learn of it only when the end reaches me. Or perhaps when a caring friend or neighbour lets me know what’s happening.

The reason?

It’s because I am now officially boycotting all radio, TV and other public news media until further notice.

For some time now it’s been a scary, hairy and anger-producing or anxiety-raising experience listening to the news or reading the newspaper. It’s all gloom, doom and fear-mongering, with nary a good news story or uplifting moment of the human spirit in sight. [Read more…]

As the daughter of one veterinarian and the sister of another, I’ve always turned to the vets in my family for sound medical advice.

I’ve found generally that vets – not only those in my family and unlike many doctors I’ve known over the years – will explain medical mysteries very clearly in terms I can understand. With another plus – not while ‘talking down’ to me in the process! :) [Read more…]

Some time ago I wrote I Remember – A Boomer Tribute, a blog post that definitely revealed my age. :) Well this is another one that will do the same.

Train Ticket 1975The other day, among some stuff I was clearing out, I found a ticket stub tucked away in a book. The stub was from a 1975 train ticket! Yep, we were issued with solid cardboard tickets in those days. The date is on the back. On the front are the train lines it served: Princes Bridge to … Glenroy … Holmesglen … Hughesdale … McKinnon … Rosanna.
